Sofia
Sofia is located 150 km (90 miles) northwest of Plovdiv, (Bulgaria's second largest city), 390 km west of Burgas, 470 km (294 miles) west of Varna, Bulgaria's major port-cities on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Sofia is one of the highest capitals in Europe standing 550m above sea level. It is a city steeped in history with magnificent buildings from a glorious past, stunning Orthodox churches, magnificent Baroque palaces and grand municipal monuments.

It is also a city with a bright and exciting future. It now boasts a busy new airport terminal, the exclusive ski resort at Vitosha Mountain (15 mins away) and the headquarters of some of the largest blue chip companies in the world.
With its well-developed infrastructure and strategic location, Sofia has excellent transportation links. An increasing number of tourists are visiting the city every year and the new Sofia airport terminal is expecting to deal with over 2.5 million visitors annually.
The Sofia ring road is going to be transformed into a four-lane highway making access to the city centre and the airport from the suburbs easier and faster. The subway system is being upgraded and extended to the trade centre area.
Public transport is well-developed, reliable and important to the city's economy. Featuring an international railway, underground trains (the Sofia Metro), buses, trams and trolleybuses. There are over 15,000 licensed taxi cabs operating in the city.
EU accession has lead to an influx of diplomatic and clerical staff all needing suitable accommodation. The expansion and upgrading of the city's entire infrastructure and the extensive building projects throughout Sofia has also lead to a further influx of workers. This in turn has sparked a major upturn in the economy.
