Kardzhali
Kardzhali is located in the heart of the Eastern Rodophi Mountains, along the two banks of the Arda River. 250km from the capital Sofia, 90km from Plovdiv airport, 420km from Varna airport and 270km from Bourgas airport.
There are two big dams on the outskirts of the city - "Studen Kladenec" Dam to the east, and ÒKardjaliÓ Dam to the south. The town and the region are famous for its large lakes and white water rivers attracting anglers and watersport enthusiasts. There are at least 200 sunny days a year and with this mild climate the vineyards in the area flourish to produce good quality Merlot and Cabernet wine.
Popular with tourists are the archeological sites, the ancient stone city of Perperikon, an ancient Thracian sanctuary and the remains of several castles providing plenty of places for sightseeing.
