Pernik

Pernik is situated in picturesque lowland in the western part of central Bulgaria along the Struma river. 30 km to the southwest of Sofia, 59 km northeast of Kyustendil and 70 km north of Blagoevgrad.

Tourist attractions in the town are the historical museum which displays more than 40,000 exhibits, the Art Gallery and the remains of the Krakra fortress.

Every two years in January an International Festival of Masquerade Games takes place in Pernik with over 5000 masked participants from all over the country in fancy dress with parades and dances through the streets.

To relax in Pernik there are numerous restaurants, bars and traditional mehanas (café - restauarants serving Bulgarian cuisine) offering delicious food and wide range of selected drinks.
