Silistra
The town of Silistra is situated on the right bank of the Danube river approx 440 km from the capital Sofia, 120 km from Rousse and 140 km from Varna.
A town which has a rich and interesting history built on the site of an old Roman settlement with many places of interest to visit.
Silistra has a nature reserve at Srebarna which is one of Bulgaria's most important marshlands. Endangered species such as the Dalmation Pelican, the pygmy cormorant and the ferruginous duck reside by the Lake. Also in and around the lake are various migrating bird species as well as nesting birds. The reserve has a research and visitors centre where there is a trail leading to a viewpoint overlooking the pelican colony.
