Stara Zagora
Stara Zagora is situated in the geographical centre of Bulgaria at the foot of the Sredna Gora mountain. Located 230 km south west of the capital Sofia and 190 km west of Bourgas and is locally known as the 'Town of Limes' because of the many lime trees planted along the main streets of the town.
Stara Zagora as a tourist destination has a lot to offer with its friendly people, cafes, excellent local cuisine, opera, theatre and interesting museums. There are also natural hot springs and being close to the mountain it is ideal for the hiker, photographer or angler.
The town has plenty of shopping facilities and you can buy high quality and modern locally hand knitted clothing and accessories. Time your visit just right, and you could find yourself enjoying one of Stara Zagora's traditional festivals. May through to July features various regional music festivals with a beer festival in August. The hotels range from small charming family run establishments to large contemporary hotels with conference facilities.
